We spent our first full day in Jordan visiting Petra. This ancient city was pretty much carved out of rock faces. The beautiful color of the stone and the intricate architecture made for some fun exploring.
Here we are at the beginning of the trail down to the main part of the city.
We walked down this long gorge, called the Siq, to get to the Treasury and the rest of the ruins.
We saw some soldiers doing formations along the way. The groove in the canyon wall in the right center photo was used to transport water to the city.
At the end of the Siq, was the Treasury, one of the most well preserved ruins.
Some more ruins showing the amazing color patterns in the stone.
